Axis12 attends DrupalCon Chicago – March 2011

7 Apr. 2011 Posted by al@axistwelve.com

A team including Dave Stuart, our CTO, attended the recent DrupalCon event to hear from industry speakers and network with Drupal experts from across the world.

The purpose of our attendance was to hear the latest trends, connect with potential partners and share information on some of the trends that we at Axis12 are setting. Dave was also invited to participate on an expert panel to discuss Solr Search.

One of the key trends that emerged included news from the large Drupal companies looking to partner with smaller development houses to help increase capacity, in response to current high demand.

Another highlight was Acquia's launch of a new product which aims to solve some of the big issues that still exist around deployment and development. Using a web GUI on the Acquia Network, developers or deployment managers are able to move code and databases from dev to staging and onto production through a GUI. Deployments and databases are tagged so they can be reverted if need be and rules can be created to stop people pushing the dev db to live (good feature!). They have also plugged in a number of third party tools such as performance testing (New Relic - http://newrelic.com) and SEO, which uses a new API that will soon be available to Acquia partners to integrate their own tools for sale within the Acquia Network. All in all very exciting stuff.

One of the more controversial points raised was the idea of a Drupal appstore......Anyone have views on this?

Axis12 will also be attending DrupalCon London in August. Visit our site nearer the time to find out further details
